About the Author – Cynthia A. Sandor

Ms. Sandor understands music/book publishing, media, online marketing, television, and radio. Her  career began at the young age of 19 when she was the receptionist at John Denver’s Music publishing company in Greenwich, Ct. Within six months, she was promoted to handle the copyrights, licensing, and administration for Cherry Lane Music Publishing’s expansive catalogue that included over 20 companies and 200 songwriters, including Kenny Rogers, Barbara Streisand, Harry Belafonte, Lee Holdridge, and the Starland Vocal Band, to name a few.

In 1987, she married and moved to Florida.  A month after she purchased her home, Cynthia returned to Greenwich, Ct., to care for her mother, Gertrude, who was dying from bone cancer. It was during this time that she found her mother’s secret hand-written journal entitled Landjahrlager – Seidorf (Country Service Year Camp – Sosnówka). She showed the journal to her mother and questioned it’s authenticity.

“It doesn’t matter anymore. I’m dying. I might as well tell you. I was in the Hitler Youth,” was Gertrude’s response.

From that moment on, Gertrude shared her intimate journey with her daughter which led Cynthia to writing her mother’s biography entitled “Through Innocent Eyes – The Chosen Girls of the Hitler Youth.”

Gertrude died on November 20, 1989, in Greenwich, Ct. Her remains were transported to Rohrbach, Austria near her home village of Kleinzell, where she is buried in the family plot. Over 300 people attended Gertrude’s funeral.
